This summer the idea of start looking for a job was sort of uncomfortable. It was not too excited about looking for a new job because despite of the gratitude I have towards my first graphic design job; which was just this past summer. The experience was not what I expected, and yes; it was a rewarding experience, rewarding in the sense that it helped me grow, taught me how to be more marketable, and I gained a lot organization skills. However, It was not creatively fulfilling. That is one thing, but another factor was that the abundant of work that school gave me, had left me with no time to actually start applying for jobs, I did not wanted to just apply anywhere. So I really wanted to research the places I was going to apply for. In my head I had planned to search for studios with a culture around their work.
Este verano la idea de buscar un nuevo trabajo era algo incomoda. No estaba tan alegre de tener que buscar un nuevo trabajo, a pesar de la gratitud que le tengo a mi primer trabajo como diseñador, el cual no fue ase mucho tiempo; apenas este verano pasado. La experiencia de mi primer trabajo no fue la que esperaba, y si, fue agradable y constructiva porque me enseño como presentar mi trabajo de una mejor manera, aprendí a ser más organizado, y demás. Sin embargo, no fue creativamente gratificante. Por una parte, y la otra razón fue el montón trabajo que me dieron las clases, este semestre que paso, me dejaron sin energía o tiempo para empezar a buscar trabajos. No quería aplicar para empleos en cualquier lugar, entonces, quería realmente investigar y aprender más de los lugares en los que quisiera buscar trabajo. En mi mente tenía planeado buscar agencias y estudios que tenga una cultura alrededor de su forma de trabajo.
a place with an environment that was creatively appealing, and work that its intellectually engaging. At first, I thought finding this place with a cool vibe and great work was just asking for too much. To tell truth I have found a handful places like that in DC. But my schedule is still very odd. I have one more semester left to complete in school. hopefully things go smoothly this spring in the Corcoran and I am done with school. In the bright side I have been freelancing since I left my my first job and I have met some great people because of it, and this sumer they got me so busy, I can not complaint. The best part of this freelance jobs is that the work is fun and I am learning from it. Right now I am working half-time in two places:
Un lugar con un ambiente que fuera creativa e intelectualmente estimulante. En un principio, pensé que encontrar un lugar con una buena vibra y buen trabajo del cual podria aprender era demasiado pedir. Pero, para decir la verdad encontré unos cuantos lugares con esas características aquí en Washington, DC. Pero, siempre hay un pero. Mi horario todavía esta medio raro ya que tengo un semestre mas por terminar, y eso me impide buscar un trabajo de tiempo completo, que es lo que los estudios y agencias creativas buscan mas. Este semestre del otoño espero que todo me vaya bien en el Corcoran y termine mi titulo. Y por un lado mas optimista, he estado trabajando independientemente por contrato con compañías que ofrecen trabajo por proyecto. Y de esta forma he llagado a conocer un montón de buenas personas. Y este verano esos contactos me han llenado de trabajo, ahora que tengo mas tiempo por las vacaciones, así que por eso no me puedo quejar. La mejor parte de estos trabajos es que la paso bien y también aprendo de ellos. Ahora por ejemplo estoy trabajando para estos dos lugares:
Onomonomedia
I met these people through a friend from school, they area a company that rent a Photo Booth that they designed and put together for all sort of social events. The company has some presence in other cities like Miami, Los Angeles, and New York, but they are based here in DC. One of the perks of working in this place is the amount of event I get to be aware of and also get the chance to attend. I also like the work I am doing here. For instance, right now I am working in redesigning the interface of their Photo Boot, these are some screens I have already done.
Conocí a estas personas atrevas de un amigo de la universidad, Ellos son una compañía que renta una maquina que toma fotos; ellos diseñaron y construyeron todos este aparato, y lo rentan para todo tipo de eventos sociales. Esta compañía tiene presencia en ciudades como Miami, Los Angeles, y New York. Pero están establecidos en Washington. Una de las ventajas de trabajar en este lugar es que llego a saber de los varios eventos que ocurren en la ciudad, e incluso tengo la oportunidad de ir a alguno de ellos. Pero, también me gusta el trabajo que hago para ellos. Por ejemplo, ahora estoy trabajando en re-diseñar la interfaz de su cabina de fotos, estas son una de las pantallas que ya he terminado.
This is their photo booth, if you ever see it at an event go and take some pictures. it will give you a free print and you can send the photos you took to your email. How cool is that!

Rennzer
The other place I am working at is an agency in Dupont Circle called Rennzer, I met the CEO, Omid; a good friend of mine, when he hired me for a branding project while working at another company. The place is relatively new, they do UI/UX work, but they want to expand and do more than that. I like the environment in this place because is very entrepreneurial and ambitious. I am excited about the product development projects that we are working on, and I am learning about UI the best way possible, working in real projects.
El otro lugar en el que eh estado trabajando es un agency en Dupont Cirlce, Washington, DC. Conocí al gerente, Omid; un buen amigo, cuando trabaje con el me contrato para trabajar en la identidad visual para la compañía en la que estaba trabajando en ese momento. El lugar el relativamente nuevo, ellos hacen UI/UX, pero quieren expandirse y trabajar en otras cosas mas. Me gusta en ambiente en Rennzer porque tiene ideas ambicionas acerca de productos y servicios. Estoy entusiasmado de ver a donde llegan esos proyecto, y estoy aprendiendo acerca de diseño en UI/UX de la mejor manera posible, que es trabajando de proyectos reales.
I can not show the UI work we have been doing because the job is for a client in the private sector. But, I can show some of the the other work I have been doing. For example, I was asked to work in their identity. I thought that was just the coolest thing – branding an agency I think just look hot in a portfolio- So this is some of my process for their branding.
No puedo mostrar los trabajos de UI/UX por que son de un cliente en el sector privado, Pero. puedo mostrar alguno de los otros trabajos que he estado haciendo para ellos. Por ejemplo, diseñe la identidad visual de la agencia. Para mi fue la una honra trabajar en su logo porque el diseñar la imagen de una agencia creative se vería excelente en cualquier portafolio. So, that has been so far what I have been doing this summer. The places I am freelancing for seem promising in the fact that they both are looking to scale. For me that is great because they have the potential to turn into full-time jobs. If that is the case, I would not have to keep looking for a studio job; which I do not mind, at least until I am not completely out of school.
Bueno, eso a sido por el momento lo que eh estado haciendo este verano. Los lugares en los que estoy trabajando se ven alentadores por el echo de que tienen intenciones de expandirse y crecer como negocio. Para mi es excelente porque de esa forma tienen el potencial de volverse trabajos de tiempo completo, y si fuera así no tendría que seguir buscando trabajo en alguna agencia o estudio, lo cual no me parece nada mal. Por lo menos mientras sigo estudiando.
